Fairytale land

This week (among two other projects) is primarily Fairytale Land! And I am having a blast! Having been contacted by the writers of a book, which by the way, is epic, I have commenced on a mammoth 22 illustration journey plus cover art..... Not a giant project but big enough when working alongside two other books and being nearlly 7 months pregnant!

There are so many factors to this project that are making it so enjoyabe, mainly getting to kow the characters I am creating visually, they already exist in writing, which some might say makes the illustration harder but thankfully the book is so well written that with my imagination being as vast and fast moving as it is, I could instantly see what each and every single character would look like, in a miriad of scenarios!

I might only be a few pages in to this awesome book but I am already totally in love with it and really enjoying being challenged in certain aspects of my illustrative style (hands are not my strong suit) but learning to adapt and in places, quickly improve, is all part of the journey! It helps when you have such open and supportive clients too, Jay and Ana are a wonderful team and really easy to communicate with, I am aware (from some harsh experience) that I am very lucky to be working with such a great writing team!

Check back soon to see more from this wonderful ride and where it might take me next!

This last week has been the dogs..... Lots and lots of dogs!

Currently, one of the projects on my desk is a clients childrens book illustrations, 11 gorgeous pooches and the story that brings them to me. It is such a sweet story! Sadly not one I can share fully right now but as and when, brace your hearts for lots of "Aaaaaaw"

One of the illustrations in particular struck a chord with me, a rough collie tucked up in bed with her humans, sleeping soundly and smiling dreamily, I adore the concept of this image, and the added challenge of painting two sets of tootsies of a different age! It might not sound a struggle but to make one pair of feet look younger than the other (not just by making them smaller) is actually REALLY hard!

I've still got a few more of these adorable hounds to paint and then its scanning central and editingville here for me! I absolutely adore this work and the variety of characters (fictional and real) I get to "meet". Being me rocks!

Over and Out!

Oh hi!

So, this is new... I have no idea what I'm doing, is it obvious!?

Well today at least, I know what I am doing, Sketching, planning and writing..... and drinking tea!

I am completely new to blogging, I do love to write but I've never considered publishing it online, I mean who is gonna read this!?

Anyway *slurps tea* I am Abigail (Pleeeeeeease call me Abi) and I am an illustrator and watercolour artist in the UK. It rains alot here.... I love to do food illustrations and silly little characters I create, I also adore childrens book illustrating as well as editorial work. I love to work basically!

I am also 6 Months pregnant with my Son (I dont have red hair, she is an illustration NOT a self portrait) And loving every single second of it! I live with my partner and his two daughters in a pretty little village in the South East of the UK along with our Jack Russell and House Rabbit.

I spend my days sketching, painting, chuckling to myself at the inner dialogue I have just given one of my illustrations (I crack myself up) and drinking tea. Copious amounts of tea. All day.

Anyhoo..... I need to put the kettle on. It was great talking to you mysterious ether! Ciao!!
